Non-surgical treatments
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a treatment for thread veins and spider veins. These veins are often found on legs and can be small or large. These veins can be unsightly but can be easily treated.
About Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is the best treatment for small veins and spider veins. It involves injecting a solution directly into the vein. The vein is no longer used, the blood is rerouted, and the injected vein is then reabsorbed and fades away. It can take a few weeks for the veins to fully fade and for some veins it may take more than one treatment.
Along with small thread veins, spider veins can also be treated with sclerotherapy. Spider veins are small and close to the skin surface. They are called spider veins as they often look like spider webs or tree branches and are commonly red, blue, or purple in colour. Spider veins have a range of causes.
How it Works
Targeted Injection
A fine needle is used to inject a special solution directly into the spider or thread vein.
Vein Collapse
The solution irritates the vein lining, causing it to swell and stick together, eventually sealing shut.
Blood Rerouting
Blood naturally reroutes through healthier veins, improving circulation and appearance.
Gradual Fading
Over a few weeks, the treated vein is reabsorbed by the body and fades from view.
Who Is It Suitable For?
Sclerotherapy is ideal for individuals who are bothered by the appearance of small thread veins or spider veins, especially on the legs. It is particularly suitable for:
-
Those with visible red, blue, or purple spider veins that cause cosmetic concern.
-
Individuals experiencing mild discomfort or itching associated with small surface veins.
-
Anyone looking for a non-surgical, minimally invasive solution to reduce the appearance of thread veins.
-
People with realistic expectations who understand that multiple sessions may be needed for optimal results.
